Title: Privacy in Cryptocurrencies

Abstract: A long line of research has demonstrated that deployed cryptocurrencies often do not achieve the levels of anonymity that their theoretical designs enable, while at the same time another line of research has worked to increase the level of privacy in distributed ledgers by adding new features, creating new platforms, or providing generic tools like zero-knowledge proofs that are compatible with distributed ledgers. This talk will explore both these lines of research, demonstrating both de-anonymization attacks on new cryptocurrencies and platforms and privacy-enhancing techniques that achieve provably secure guarantees.
